minutesIt’s easier than you think to make cafe-quality French Toast at home – you just need a pan, a few staple ingredients, and a good recipe! The best breads for French toast are brioche, sourdough, raisin bread and French bread . These are denser and sturdy enough to handle total saturation in the egg custard without falling apart. Any thick-sliced white bread will do and day-old bread works best because it absorbs the eggy mixture better than fresh slices…
Ingredients
â…” cup milk
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (Optional)
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon (Optional)
6 thick slices of bread
1 tablespoon butter, or more as needed
Maple or Golden syrup, fruit or yoghurt to serve
sliced walnuts to serve (optional)
Directions
- Whisk milk, eggs, vanilla and cinnamon together in a shallow bowl.
- Lightly butter a pan and heat over medium-high heat. Dunk the bread into the egg mixture, soaking both sides.
- Transfer to the pan and cook until lightly golden, approx 3 to 4 minutes per side.
- Serve hot, topped with fresh or canned fruit, nuts and/or any syrup of your choice.
